Gender evolved. Masc. Made for More of Us.

Gender evolved. Masc. Made for More of Us.

Fashion has spent a very long time asking you to choose: Men’s or Women’s.

And if neither works? That’s been your problem to solve. We disagree.

Them Tops exists for nonbinary, gender-nonconforming, masculine-of-center, butch, soft butch, queer, and other masc-presenting people.

We design for those who have been overlooked by traditional gendered fashion. And we started with our carefully constructed T-shirt. We kept the need for versatility in mind and, even deeper than this, an understanding that the way you dress can be deeply connected to the way you see yourself in the world.

"I can comfortably wear it with any kind of pants…"

We think about fit and function differently

Body-aware fit

We paid attention to the places where traditional T-shirts routinely miss the mark for a masculine presenting look: neckline coverage, shoulder placement, sleeve proportion, torso length, chest fit, and a straighter silhouette.

Gender affirmation

Clothing is visual language. The right fit can help the person you see in the mirror feel more aligned with the person you already know yourself to be.

Versatility

The people we design for have full lives. Work. Dinner. Coffee. Community events. Travel. A night out. A lazy Sunday. We want pieces that move between those spaces with them. That’s why we started with the Core Collection.

Accessibility

Finding clothing outside of the binary can already be difficult. It should not automatically come with a luxury price tag or the added expense of tailoring.

Choice

We are starting with a focused collection of tops, but the vision has always included more colors, prints, fits, and styles. Because MoC (masculine of center) expression is varied.

Meet Patty Barahona | Nonprofit Leader and Masc Fashion Brand Founder | she/they

I spent 15 years wishing this shirt existed.

I knew the style I wanted, but finding the fit was another story. Women’s clothing felt too feminine. Men’s clothing gave me more of the look I wanted, but the shoulders, torso, sleeves, and overall proportions were rarely right for my body. When I found something close, it often meant tailoring it and spending more than I wanted just to make it work.

At the same time, I was building a career in the nonprofit world, eventually becoming a CEO. My work has always centered on creating the conditions for change for people, and as my career grew, I became even more aware of how few clothing options there were for someone who wanted to feel polished, comfortable, and masculine at the same time.

Eventually I realized I didn’t want to keep waiting for someone else to make it.

So I started with the thing I had been searching for most: a really good T-shirt designed outside of the binary measurements.

A boxier shape, higher neckline, better shoulder placement, and more masc intentional proportions. When we completed R&D, and I was able to see The Structured T and The Shortie T on people who said, “This looks so good.” and “I haven’t felt this fit before.”, they were finally feeling seen in the clothing. And that solidified the work that we are doing here. But it doesn’t stop here; my vision is bigger.

I want more people to have access to clothing that lets them explore and express masculinity in a way that feels like their own. And eventually, I want to see those options move beyond specialty shops and into the mainstream.

Because masculinity has never belonged to one gender, one body, or one section of the store.

Community

Them Tops was built around a shared problem, and we want its future to be shaped by the people who understand that problem firsthand. This is why we took our time in product development, prototypes, and R&D for our first drop, and will continue to do so. Who we serve is at the center of our work here.

Gender-Evolved

Bodies evolve. Identity evolves. Culture evolves. Our products and our understanding should be willing to evolve too. This shapes our mindset to always be learning, fluid with what is happening in expression and trends, and working to keep the brand pushing that evolution forward.

Joy

Gender expression does not only have to be a story about struggle. While we want to honor that as well, there is joy in recognizing yourself. Joy in experimenting. Joy in finding the thing that finally fits. We’re here to celebrate that masc expression with you.

You’ll Hear Us Talk About Masculine of Center (MoC) A Lot Here

You’ll Hear Us Talk About Masculine of Center (MoC) A Lot Here

And that’s because it gave us so much clarity; this is especially true for me as a MoC individual.

“Masculine of center (MoC) is a broad term for people—mostly queer, lesbian, or non-binary individuals—whose gender expression or identity leans toward the masculine side of a gender spectrum.”

It was coined by Sir Cole of the Brown Boi Project as an inclusive umbrella term.

For me, it felt liberating to find a term that finally mirrors who I am and who we are. I believe validation like that is powerful - and it gives you the language to claim your space, embrace the full spectrum of your masculinity – and confidently lean into and create the masc-fashion that makes you feel most like yourself.

FAQ

Them Tops aims to create a ‘third space’ to include masc-wear, evolving traditional menswear, womenswear, and broadly gender-neutral fashion.

Rather than creating generic unisex clothing, we design specifically around the spectrum of masculine expression and the fit concerns we consistently see among masculine-of-center customers.

We are also committed to accessibility and versatility. The goal is to create well-made pieces at prices that allow more people to build a wardrobe around them, rather than requiring expensive tailoring or saving specialty pieces for occasional wear.

We start by understanding that fit and fashion is connected to gender affirmation.

Them Tops is influenced by an idea of liberatory masculinity: masculinity that does not belong to one gender, body, or prescribed way of presenting. Our role is not to tell you how masculinity should look. It is to create masc-wear™ that gives you more freedom to express your own version of it.

The result is clothing designed with both body awareness and gender expression in mind.

Them Tops was founded by Patty Barahona, a longtime nonprofit leader and CEO who spent roughly 15 years struggling to find masculine-of-center clothing that fit how they were looking to present themselves.

Them Tops' mission is to increase access to intentionally engineered, versatile masc-wear™ for gender-nonconforming, nonbinary, masculine-of-center, and masc-presenting people while helping push the broader retail industry beyond the traditional binary.

Anyone can try masc-wear.
